Meet Dulcie

For Brooklyn-based cyclist and activist Dulcie, stopping street violence has become a life mission. Both Dulcie and her mother were victims of hit and run crashes on separate occasions 10 years apart – Dulcie as a cyclist, her mother as a pedestrian. Her mother had to learn to walk again. Dulcie spent many months in the hospital. The drivers, in both cases, received no punishment.

Dulcie’s story won’t come as a surprise to people living in low-income areas. Across the United States, giant, fast-moving, multi-lane roads were built in an effort to move workers quickly out of cities and into the relative “safety” of their suburban neighborhoods. Minimal consideration was given to the people that lived in-between.

For Dulcie the question has become “how do we stop the current epidemic of cyclist and pedestrian fatalities?”
